Course Description

The course will examine the inter-linkages between gender and HIV/AIDS, explore strategies to mainstreaming gender and HIV/AIDS at policy, programmes and implementation processes. However, there is limited gender conceptual clarity and application skills among key decision makers, practitioners, civil societies and private institutions and the inter-relationship with HIV/AIDS, policy and macro-economic issues. These limitations hamper efforts geared towards making gender and HIV/AIDS cross-cutting issues in development policies, programmes and processes. In view of the above, the course on Gender and HIV/AIDS is based on the understanding that gender and sexuality are significant factors in the sexual transmission of HIV and they also influence treatment, care and support. The prevention and management of the spread of HIV/AIDS is inextricably linked to achieving gender equality and women empowerment.

  • the application of gender-based knowledge in the campaign against the HIV/AIDS pandemic;
